Super Cake Crazy for JAI #383

Happy Friday everyone and welcome!! The garden is really beginning to show off it's Spring colours and it reminds me of why this is my favourite time of year. The bottle brushes, roses and other shrubs are all in full bloom and the veggie garden has us well supplied for Spring salads already - yum :-)

Also very yummy is this week's new challenge at Just Add Ink where Chloe has suggested that we Just Add...Cake this week :-) The design team have created such a wonderful array of cakes to inspire you so I hope that you might be able to pop on over and take a look and join us.

I don't have any traditional cake images in my collection and so chose to go with a retired set that has a mixture of shapes and words to build a cake. It's also come at the perfect time to celebrate my "super" brother's birthday too. I always try and make something a bit interactive for his birthday and so this year it was time for a magic slider card. When you pull up the tab who should appear...???

Yes, Superman of course :-)

He makes an appearance on the inside as well and he is coloured with Copics.

The Slider action is reasonably simple to create for something that has a wow effect. There is a similar tab of card stock around the bottom of the piece of acetate only it is cut longer than the slit in the card front to stop it coming right out when pulled. I also used the Thick Whisper White for added strength too.

To make sure there was plenty of room under the top layer of card for the slide action, to take place I used the Foam Strips and also placed some close to the sides of where the acetate runs too to act as guard rails to keep it running straight. Rubbing the sides of the foam strips with an Embossing Buddy will stop it sticking to the acetate and ensure it slides freely.

Card stock: Pacific Point, Basic Black, Whisper White (thick and standard), Window Sheet
Ink: Pacific Point, Momento Tuxedo Black, Black Stazon (on the acetate), Versamark
Stamps: Cake Crazy (retired), Everyday Hero (retired), Labeller Alphabet
Accessories: Silver EP, Metallic Sequins Assortment, Foam Adhesive Strips

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you have a moment to pop on over to Just Add Ink  and see all the fabulous designs from our lovely design team and I look forward to seeing what cakes you'll create to share with us this week.

Happy stamping until next time,

Jan

  1. The colour of my garden is just gorgeous at the moment too, Jan. I so love spring.

You have created an awesome card for your brother. Absolutely love that it's interactive, & I'm sure he will too. I was disappointed this set retired so quickly, & I haven't had nearly enough use out of it myself so I'm keeping it. x
